We are a 273 acre beef /sheep/cereal family run farm. Guided tours can be arranged Situated in heart of rural Mid-Devon or Devonshire’s Heartland as it is known. We have a delightful picturesque thatched country cottage by the river or a barn conversion nearer to the farmhouse. Breakfast can be taken in the farmhouse if required. Stable Lodge has facilities for the less able and in the cottage you may bring your dog. We also offer winterlets. You may just want to stay a night, short break, a week or longer let depending on your reason for visiting our lovely area. Perhaps you are visiting friends, a wedding or party at Dukes, Thelbridge Cross Inn or somewhere else local, house hunting or just for a relaxing break. If you enjoy visitng gardens the spring & summer is perfect. We are 10 miles (16 km) west of Tiverton , or 25mins from Junction 27 on the M5, and 8 miles (12km) north of Crediton, 10 miles(16km) south of South Molton. Our position makes it an ideal base for visiting all parts of our wonderful county with its varied landscape from wind swept Dartmoor to the rolling coombes of Exmoor and the rugged NorthDevon coast with the long sandy beaches of Saunton and Woolacombe to the hidden coves and fishing villages of: Tiverton ("birthplace of Vicar of Dibley ?") is a busy market town just 20 mins drive away with pannier markets on Tuesday, Friday & Saturday. Crediton famous for St. Boniface is again only 20 mins drive. Then within 35 mins we have the cathedral city of Exeter with the new Princesshay shopping centre. South Molton is also reached in 20 mins, situated at the foothills of Exmoor, it comes alive on Thursdays when the cattle market is held together with the pannier market. " Johnny Kingdom country" Barnstaple and Bideford are just a short drive from South Molton via the North Devon Link road. The Cathedral building, dedicated to Peter, one of Jesus' earliest followers and the model for all subsequent bishops, is the finest example of Decorated Gothic architecture in any Cathedral. The building itself proclaims something of the beauty and holiness of God. To see it on a day when the sun streams through its windows is breathtaking.

	Dartmouth Castle One of the most picturesquely- sited fortresses in England. For over six hundred years Dartmouth Castle has guarded the narrow entrance to the Dart Estuary and the busy, vibrant port of Dartmouth. This fascinating complex of defences was begun in 1388 by John Hawley, privateering mayor of Dartmouth and the prototype of the flamboyant 'Shipman' in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. About a century later the townsmen added the imposing and well- preserved 'gun tower', probably the very first fortification in Britain purpose-built to mount 'ship-sinking' heavy cannon. Climb to the top for breathtaking views across the estuary and see how it could be blocked in wartime by a heavy chain. Unusually incorporating the fine church of St Petrox, the castle saw action during the Civil War, and continued in service right up until World War II. Successive up-dating included the Victorian 'Old Battery' with its remounted heavy guns, guardrooms and maze of passages to explore. Here a dramatic film-sequence recreates a Victorian gun-firing, and throughout the fortress displays retell the six centuries of castle history.
