Our home dates from the early 15th century when it was part of the Hornby Castle Estate, later belonging to the Duke of Leeds.

Mill Close has been farmed by the Knox family since the turn of the century. A cluster of stone buildings surrounds the farmhouse, which has commanding views of the Moors & Dales.

Squashy sofas in the guest sitting room offer a cosy retreat in winter or a summer garden room opens onto a colourful garden.

Our traditional farmhouse retains its original character and is decorated with quality furnishings and antiques.

In our family home we endeavour to provide an undisturbed retreat, with a warm and friendly ambience complimented by a high level of quality and comfort.

The farmhouse is surrounded by a large secluded garden. A terraced area leads to a walled garden with pond, waterfall and patio where guests can enjoy a wealth of garden birds.

If you’re feeling energetic try a nature walk around our three acre fishing lake.

JORVIK Viking Centre

Everything in JORVIK Viking Centre is based on archaeological evidence unearthed during the Coppergate excavations undertaken between 1979–81 by York Archaeological Trust. Archaeologists started digging on the site of an old sweet factory and unearthed remains of 10th century Viking-age buildings that were surrounded by moist, spongy layers of earth similar to that of a peat bog. These damp conditions helped preserve everyday Viking items such as wood, leather, cloth, bugs and even a Viking toilet and its contents. In total, an incredible 40,000 objects were uncovered by excavating 36,000 layers and sieving 8 tonnes of soil!
