‘Criteria to regulate poultry sector required’

The Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro asked the Ministry of Health as well as Ministry for Food, Agriculture & Livestock (MINFAL) to prepare proper criteria to regulate the poultry industry.

In this regard, he constituted a committee which includes Dr Amjad, Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination, Secretary Health and two representatives of Poultry Association to prepare the criteria and accordingly enforce the regulations. He said that besides preparing the criteria the committee should also suggest immediate and long-term solutions of the problems being faced by the poultry industry.

The Prime Minister was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Poultry Association led by Dr Abdul Basit, Chairman of the Association, here at the Prime Minister's Secretariat this evening.

Prime Minister said that the information and public perception about the bird flu should be improved to help the people to understand the true facts. The disinformation in this regard could directly affect the common man since chicken is the cheapest source of protein that they can afford.

The Prime Minister asked the Pakistan Poultry Association to interact with the media to dispel the misperceptions about the spread of bird flu. He asked them to create awareness among the small poultry farmers as well as to improve the conditions of their farms and ensure vaccination of the birds.
