‘Just Ask’ Gonalston Farm Shop

Customers at Gonalston Farm Shop, Nottinghamshire, are being encouraged to 'Just Ask' where their food comes from when TV Celebrity Chef and 'Just Ask' supporter Lesley Waters officially opens its newly extended store at 11am, 25 April.

The award winning farm shop is backing the Country Land & Business Association's (CLA) local food campaign, which is gathering wide spread support from hotels, restaurants, pubs and retailers from across the region.

Owners, Georgina and Ross Mason are passionate supporters of local and British foods and believe that sourcing locally has been key to the businesses growing success.

Georgina said: "Customers are expressing a greater interest in food origin and here at Gonalston Farm Shop we always welcome people 'just asking' where the food we sell actually comes from.

"We try and source in as much local produce as we can and in doing so we are able to support other local businesses and farmers."

Known for her regular television appearances on Ready Steady Cook, Great Food Live and This Morning, Lesley Waters launched the CLA's 'Just Ask' campaign earlier this year at 10 Downing Street, along with the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and David Miliband, Secretary of State for the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Lesley said: "We need to teach the next generation to care where their food comes from. Buying British food and sourcing local, seasonal produce ensures that we have a viable farming industry which maintains the countryside we love.

"Why choose apples from South Africa when you could be choosing from a seasonal variety from Great Britain? This won't happen overnight it's going to be a slow-burn but we have to start somewhere."

Lesley Waters will be on hand to assist local producers in cooking some tasty treats for visitors to sample. There will also be entertainment for the children and a chance to win a luxury Best of British hamper with all proceeds going to charity Cystic Fibrosis.
