Sheep farmers are to stop selling lamb next week in protest at the low prices they are paid by supermarkets.

The social media campaign, named #NoLambWeek, has been introduced to build attention among the public about the crash of farmers’ return on lamb.

They say they will not be selling their lambs to abattoirs or meat processors all week.

The NSA (National Sheep Association) is insisting supermarkets to pay close attention to the response of UK lamb producers to the unacceptably depressed prices currently being seen.

It is understood the idea for #NoLambWeek, which will run from 1-7 August, was started by a group of farmers who met at the Royal Welsh Show last week, which David Cameron visited to show his support for the industry.
