AHDB announces news Smart Agriculture conference

The application of smart technologies in agriculture is nothing new but in order for industry to thrive it must look across the fence and see what technologies other industries are developing and what opportunities they present.

To address this, the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) has announced the launch of a brand new conference, SmartAg 2015. This conference aims to bridge the gap between farming and technology, inspiring the development of innovative technologies to address future challenges facing the agricultural industries.

This cross-disciplinary approach will bring together internationally renowned experts in their field to present themed sessions on cutting edge science and technology including; precision crop and livestock farming, decision support systems, quantum imaging, computer science and robotics– all of which present significant opportunities to the future of agriculture and horticulture..

To ensure new innovative technology can be developed AHDB has teamed up with Innovate UK and the Knowledge Transfer Network. This partnership means that SmartAg 2015 is the place to make new contacts with funding organisations as well as in the smart technology industries from both within and beyond agriculture.

AHDB Chairman, Sir Peter Kendall looks forward to the event saying “Smart, high tech farming is taking off across the world. The UK must be at the forefront of evaluating and adopting the very best techniques to enable the production of more high quality produce in a sustainable manner. This conference gives us a great opportunity to investigate how new technologies could shape the future of our industry”.

Upcoming students within the smart technologies sector are also invited to attend the conference with a further opportunity to display their research in a poster competition which will feature at the event.

Exhibitor space is available to enable organisations to demonstrate equipment, present projects and highlight research strategies to an influential audience working with or developing smart technologies.
