Adrian Potter egg-stremely pleased with team’s victory in historic 50th Bed Race

Adrian Potter – a director at James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs and brother of James – was part of the winning team in the 50th Knaresborough Bed Race.

90 teams of six runners and a passenger aboard a bed on wheels took on the 2.4 mile rugged course around the historic market town, watched by thousands of people from across Yorkshire and further afield.

Adrian Potter’s team ‘Planet Steel’ won the gruelling race (which culminates in a 20-yard swim across the chilly waters of the Nidd), finishing in 13 minutes 14 seconds, beating their nearest rivals by just 0.3 seconds.

Adrian Potter said: “Needless to say, it was pretty tough and we were pushed very close by the Harrogate Harriers in second. My regular fitness programme and diet definitely played a key role in keeping me going.

“As a family and a business, we like to keep very fit and practice what we preach in terms of making eggs part of our diet because they are so rich in healthy protein and nutrients.”

The James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs brand has become synonymous not only with high welfare farming and fresh, great-tasting eggs but also health and fitness, which is why it was asked to sponsor the inaugural Yorkshire Marathon in 2013.

At only 72 calories each, a large egg contains 6.3 grams of high-quality protein and is packed with a powerhouse punch of vital nutrients.

An American study published in the International Journal of Obesity found that people who replaced carbohydrates with eggs for breakfast lost as much as 65 percent more weight.

Further research shows that regular egg eaters enjoyed more vitamins and minerals in their diets than those who ate few or no eggs. And those that eat at least four eggs a week have noticeably lower cholesterol levels than those that ate fewer than one.

The Potter family has been farming eggs in Catton, near Thirsk for three generations. Today, James Potter Yorkshire Farmhouse Free Range Eggs is one of the largest producers of free range eggs in the UK and supplies supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco, Tesco Express and Sainsbury’s. The business has built a firm reputation for high standards of animal welfare thanks to its ‘hen-centric’ approach.

James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs is Yorkshire’s favourite egg brand, donating 1p for every dozen eggs sold to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
