Agricultural vehicle workshop to take place in Kelso and Stranraer

Two workshops, focussing on agricultural vehicle legislation and transportation issues, are to be held later this month in Kelso and Stranraer.

In the last six months the workshops have toured the country, visiting Ayrshire, Angus, Stirling, Dingwall and have all been oversubscribed.

Organised by NFU Scotland and working in conjunction with Police Scotland and the Driver and Vehicles Standards Agency (DVSA), formerly the Vehicles Operator Services Authority, the latest round of half day workshops will take place in at Springwood Park, Kelso on Thursday 19 February and Thursday 26 February at the Cheese Hangar, Castle Kennedy.

With legislation constantly changing, the workshops are the ideal opportunity for farmers, their employees, crofters and landowners to gain up-to-date knowledge on any changes that could affect them, as well as asking questions where appropriate.

Topics which have previously been discussed include some of the most common problems faced by DVSA and other bodies, as well as driving licence issues, weights, transportation of dangerous goods and tachographs.

Another event is planned in the spring for the Argyll and Islands region and details will be released in due course.

Kerry Barr, Regional Manager for NFU Scotland, commented: “These workshops have been a hit in other regions with our members and we are expecting theses events to be just as popular.

“Vehicle legislation is a topic that is complicated and can cause confusion amongst farmers and those that use agricultural vehicles. The workshops are the ideal opportunity for members to ask questions and find out more information about certain transportation issues that are legally important.

“Not everyone always complies with the law, some unknowingly, and these workshops will give them the skills and knowledge to comply with the law, therefore we encourage everyone to come along and participate.

“We continuously work with the DVSA and Police Scotland, and it is great that once again we have both organisations onboard.

“Space will be limited, so members are urged to contact NFU Scotland as soon as possible to book their place.”
