Aldi is to double the size of its fresh lamb range by stocking more products sourced exclusively from British, Red Tractor assured farms.

The new lines include cuts suitable for slow-cooked winter dishes like neck fillet, rolled lamb breast and lamb shoulder.

Aldi recently became the first supermarket to sign up to the NFU’s Fruit and Veg Pledge. The retailer is also a signatory of our Back British Farming charter.

The chain’s joint managing director of buying, Tony Baines, said the move came "in response to increased demand from customers".

He added: "Fresh British lamb is a versatile product that can be used all year round and we are confident the new lines will prove popular with shoppers.”

NFU chief livestock adviser John Royle said: “News that Aldi is doubling the size of its fresh lamb range by stocking more products sourced exclusively from Red Tractor assured farms, is great news for British livestock producers.

“It’s also great that they have added more affordable cuts to their product range – these cuts are tasty, delicious, easy to cook and are versatile enough to be eaten as part of a wide range of mid-week meal ideas.

“One of our key asks of retailers has been to look at product development, enticing shoppers to buy British lamb while enabling lamb carcasses to be balanced more easily, so well done Aldi.”
