Alistair Mackintosh elected chairman of nfu livestock board

Alistair Mackintosh has been elected chairman of the NFU's national livestock board.

Mr Mackintosh, who farms sheep and beef cattle at Ravenglass, Cumbria and had been a member of the livestock board for two years, will serve in the post for two years.

He said: "The livestock sector is facing a number of challenges. It is crucial producers receive enough for their product to enable on-farm reinvestment and ensure a sustainable future. We also need to look at reducing the regulatory burden that we are under as well as dealing with the cost sharing agenda and finding a way forward on bovine TB."
