Anglesey dog owner sentenced for bull attack

A woman whose dogs mauled a prize bull worth £3,000 which led to it being put down has been jailed.

Leanne Meredith, 35, of no fixed address, was convicted of allowing two American bulldogs to attack the bull and sheep in Anglesey, North Wales in July 2012. She has been jailed for a total of 21 months.

She has also found guilty of allowing her dogs to kill nine sheep in a separate incident on Brynteg tenant farmer Alun Hughes’ farm.

Prosecutor Elen Owen told how in July 2012, two of Meredith’s American bulldogs along with other dogs “ripped into” a Limousin bull at a nearby farm on the island.

The court heard that the dogs were “hanging on to the ears” and other parts of the prize bull called Hercules and left puncture wounds all over its body.

She said: “The dogs were baying for blood and frothing at the mouth.”

The farmer rushed to the scene but was too afraid of the dogs to get out of his pick-up and had to beep his horn before to scare them away.

The court heard how Meredith had placed a carpet across a fence to allow the dogs easy access to the farmer’s field.

Although the £3,000 bull survived the attack its injuries meant that it eventually had to be put down.

The two dogs were captured and kept in kennels by North Wales Police at a total cost of more than £23,000.
