Bahrain-Beef Trade expands causing health concerns.
BAHRAIN.
PROBLEMS WITH BEEF.
There is only one approved licensed abattoir in the small oil Kingdom of Bahrain. This is run by the Bahrain Livestock Company, who purchase livestock from Australia mainly.
The meat is collected by trader or delivered to open markets in the country, where it is sold fresh.
There have been numerous complaints in recent weeks, of meat being sold that is rotting and smelling, yet it appears to have left the abattoir in good condition.
The Health Ministry public health acting director, DR Khairia Mousa, met with meat trade officials and veterinarians on Sunday to investigate the complaints.
"The meeting discussed all factors including the necessary health procedures, to assure that safe shipments of meat reach customers", said Mousa.
The Doctor went on to say "the ministry will not be lenient with anyone who is in violation of safety regulations. The ministry will punish all those who do not abide by the safety measures for slaughtering and storing of meat".
The matter is being investigated by the Prime Ministers Court, the Health Ministry and the Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs Ministry.
