Beef Association spring spectacular classes announced

A total of 15 classes, four championships and a supreme championship have been confirmed for next year’s National Beef Association’s (NBA) Spring Spectacular Show, which has a total prize pot of almost £5,000.

The show, which is set to attract the cream of British cattle from across the UK, will be held as part of the industry’s top event, NBA Beef Expo, which will be staged at York Auction Centre on May 21. Beef Expo brings together the best of pedigree and commercial cattle breeding and is the showcase event for knowledge-sharing and new equipment.

The Spring Spectacular includes classes for Native, Continental, British Blue, Limousin-sired heifers and steers, bullock and heifer purchased at public auction up to £1400,baby beef classes, two young handlers’ events and an auctioneers’ handler challenge.

On announcing details of this element of the show NBA Beef Expo Chairman, Richard Tasker said: “Once again, we have a fantastic line-up of classes and we’re expecting to see the very best of pedigree and commercial cattle descend here at York Auction Centre.

“The Spring Spectacular Show is absolutely at the heart of this, giving visitors to the show the opportunity to see the very best in British beef breeding, and I am sure that as always it will be one of the major highlights of the event.”

The first prize for each of the classes is £100, with cash prizes to fifth place. Sponsored by Caltech Crystalyx, each of the Championships carries a £100 prize with £50 for Reserve. In addition, the British Charolais Cattle Society will award £100 to the highest placed Charolais Steer in Class 3 and £100 to the highest placed Charolais heifer in Class 9. There will also be a Special Prize Rosette for the Best Exhibitor Bred Animal in each class and £10 prize money.

Entries are strictly limited to 120 cattle and exhibitors have until Monday, April 13 2015 to get theirs in. However, there are expected to be more entries than available places and a waiting list will operate once all 120 spaces have been allocated.
