Beef exports to US decline

Brazil has cut down on cooked meats and processed meat, to the United States by 80% in 2008, compared with 2007. In 2007 Brazil exported 25,237 tons of cooked meats, compared with only 4,886 tons in 2008.

Uruguay too has reduced exports, as more lucrative markets have become available for frozen fresh beef. Uruguay exported 4,217 tons of cooked meats in 2008, compared with 16.763 tons in 2007.

Manufacturing beef exported to the United States from Australia has also declined by 22,500 tons in 2008, as the new market of Russia stepped into the breach taking 72,000 tons of manufacturing beef.

Beef exports to the USA were 60,011 tons for 2008, compared with 82,615 in 2007.

Canada have filled some of the void in manufacturing beef, their exports to the US jumped by 18%, to 72,367 tons in 2008 from 61,160 in the same period last year.
