Europe’s farmers and farm cooperatives are to stage a demonstration in Brussels on September 7, deliberately timed to correspond with the EU farm ministers’ emergency meeting on the current farm sector crisis.

The decrease in food prices is somewhat caused by the oversupply of farming products in EU markets. In the past, Russia was the target for much of the EU's agricultural exports, but the Russian food embargo has caused the overproduction of food.

The September protest will take place on the same day as the emergency meeting of EU agriculture ministers, who will meet to try and solve the continent wide agricultural crisis.

The show of unity follows expanding restlessness over low prices across Europe in recent months, which has culminated in the French protests and blockades of the past two weeks.
