The cream of high-class dairy cattle will be going under the hammer at Harrison & Hetherington’s prominent Black and White Holstein sale taking place at Carlisle’s Borderway sale centre in December.

Recognised as the best sale in the Holstein calendar, there will be a preview on Friday 4th December at 7pm followed by an international reception at 7.30pm with the prestigious sale taking place on Saturday 5th December at 11.00am.

Now the longest-running elite diary sale in Europe celebrating its 29th year, it has generated almost £15 million in revenues for British dairy breeders since starting in 1987. Selling to dairy businesses across the UK and Europe, the US and Canada and even China, the Black and White Sale is a red letter day for both serious pedigree breeders and dairy farmers.

Featuring the finest of dairy milking cows, heifers and embryos consigned from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern and Southern Ireland, and Holland, the elite line-up showcases the very best of British genetics.

Glyn Lucas, Harrison & Hetherington’s Senior Pedigree Dairy auctioneer, said: “The Black & White Holstein Sale is recognised as the most important sale for dairy breeders in the UK.

“This year’s sale features a show stopping line up, in total there will be 83 lots”

“Demand for elite dairy genetics is still one of the most vibrant cattle markets and we are seeing continual growth in demand from abroad for the top quality animals and embryos produced in the UK. This really is a rare opportunity for buyers to bid on animals that are both proven in the show ring and on the farm.

Glyn concludes: “The Black and White sale provides a unique opportunity to select bloodlines from the world’s greatest cow families, the ‘la crème de la crème’ of breeding, continuing to shape the future of the Holstein breed.”
