Brighter finish with less water

A saving of at least 30 per cent in water usage is achieved with the new improved version of the Versa-Brush Polisher from Tong Peal Engineering.

With increasing pressure to reduce use of water in vegetable processing, Tong Peal has redesigned the filtration system to remove more soil so that more water can be recycled.

The company has also made further modifications to improve the cleaning process, aimed at delivering the bright, polished finish which supermarkets favour for carrots, parsnips, swedes and other root vegetables.

The Versa-Brush Polisher now uses British made rotary brushes supplied in 1000 mm rather than 100 mm segments, achieving a higher standard of cleaning and being easier to fit and replace.

The design of the rubber 'V' belt mechanism has been modified so that the belts are almost self-tensioning, reducing the need for routine adjustment and maintenance. The brush shafts are linked by sprockets to give a constant drive which prevents blockages. The whole barrel assembly is then driven by a separate, heavy-duty motor.

The unit is mounted over a heavy-duty tank which, like the remainder of the machine, is manufactured from stainless steel for improved hygiene and longevity. A large knife valve is mounted in the bottom for emptying the tank.

The Versa-Brush Polisher is available with barrels from two to four metres in length, operating up to ten tonnes / hour. It is priced from £40,000.
