Burke Winners are Announced at the Royal Show

The Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) has announced the winners of the Sir Roland Burke Machinery Trophy, and the prestigious Burke Trophies for Beef and Dairy Cattle. These trophies are regarded by many as being the top awards at the Royal Show.

The Sir Roland Burke Machinery Trophy is awarded to a British manufacturer of agricultural implements or machines which has made an outstanding impact on farming generally, or on a specific branch of farming or horticulture. This year’s winner is the Yorkshire-based Haith Tickhill Group, a family company which designs and manufactures handling equipment. The company, which is more than 60 years old, is a world-wide leader in specialised vegetable handling, washing, grading, packing and waste treatment.

The Beef Burke Perpetual Challenge Trophy, this year sponsored by ASDA, is offered for the best pairs of animals of a breed, one male and one female, selected by each breed society in the Beef and Dual Purpose Cattle Section. This year’s winners are the British Simmental represented by "Sterling Viking 2nd", owned by Boddington Estates Ltd of Gloucestershire, and "Sterling Krumpets Roxanne", owned by Boddington Estates Ltd of Gloucestershire.

The Dairy Burke Perpetual Challenge Trophy, this year sponsored by ASDA is offered for the best pair of animals of a breed, two females, selected by each breed society in the Dairy and Dual Purpose Cattle Section. This year’s winners are Holstein represented by "Hendomen Arlene 20", owned by Riverdane Holsteins of Cheshire, and "Riverdane Ladino Sara", owned by Mr Luke & Isaac Lancaster of North Yorkshire.

The Highest Place Native Pair in the Burke Trophy are Beef Shorthorn represented by "Tofts Atlas Z900" (H) owned by Messrs Playfair Farms of Scotland, and "Pode Hole Madeline Zeta" owned by C.Horrell Ltd of Cambridgeshire.
