Business efficiency training on offer for English sheep enterprises

The National Sheep Association (NSA) is encouraging English sheep producers to take advantage of subsidised business efficiency training workshops this autumn and winter, aimed at helping them get to grips with their costs of production and key performance indicators.

NSA is supporting a series of 12 one-day training courses provided by Farming4Prophet throughout England. Each session is limited to a small number of sheep producers, allowing them to be informal, interactive, and directly applicable to the businesses of those attending. A top sheep specialist will lead the workshops alongside Farming4Prophet, ensuring the discussions are relevant and practical. The specialists involved are NSA Chief Executive Phil Stocker, Independent Sheep Consultant Lesley Stubbings and Independent Sheep Specialist Kate Phillips.

Mr Stocker says: “These one-day training courses will look at costings and performance indicators within a sheep enterprise to help producers improve the efficiency of their own businesses. These will be really focused and practical sessions and I urge all sheep keepers to attend one near them.

“You need to have basic computer skills and be able to bring your own laptop or tablet, but we will provide step-by-step direction to ensure everyone gains a great deal of information and practical direction on interpreting their own enterprise and identifying which areas are performing well or not so well. We will look at everything from lambing percentages and feed bills to the cost of replacements and lamb sales.”

Funding from the Rural Development Programme for England has been obtained to allow each workshop to be offered at a subsidised rate of £58 per person + VAT. All sheep producers in England are welcome and there are still a limited number of spaces on offer for all 12 session – book now to avoid disappointment.
