China produces 620,000 tons of rabbit meat a year, as this can be done by farmers with small plots of land in the same manner as pigs and poultry.

There is about 5% of the volume exported to Europe and Russia, since the demise of the Australian rabbit population.

South Korea have agreed to import Chinese rabbits in 2009, after an inspection of the meat plants by Korean veterinarian officers and government officials.

Li Yingfing, director of the Ministry of Agriculture information office in Beijing, said " Landing the Korean market was a small step, we will now work together to help our exporters achieve more new markets".
