Dairy heifers peak at £2,420 as trade remains strong at Shrewsbury mart

The dairy trade at Shrewsbury Auction Centre has remained good throughout the challenging time for the industry and now shows signs of sharpening with spring approaching, report auctioneers Halls.

One name that is generally top of the trade for dairy heifers week in week is Richard Howard of Ellesmere. This week was no exception as he achieved £2,420 and £2,300 for heifers by Golden Boy and his entry of four averaged £2,175.

“The spring buyers are beginning to show their hand which seems to be certain proof that prices going forward will possibly harden,” said Shrewsbury Auction Centre chairman David Giles, Halls’ dairy specialist. “This can be said for mature cattle as well as youngstock, which have remained a good trade throughout the winter period.”
