It's time to be reacquainted with milk and dairy because it's central to a balanced diet, the Dairy Council told industry experts at the BBC Good Food Show.

Milk and dairy foods matter to our health and nutrition at all stages of life, and therefore registered healthcare professionals from the Dairy Council will be on-hand throughout the weekend to discuss the evidence-base on milk, dairy, nutrition and health.

The Dairy Council will exhibit their range of nutritional information for consumers.

From infants, schoolchildren, teenagers, pregnancy to older age, for males and females, there are nutrients and nutritional concerns specific to each stage of life, and milk and dairy contribute some key nutrients at specific life stages.

The Dairy Council’s resources cover everything about the nutritional and lifelong health requirements for the general population.

"Milk and dairy foods are staples of the British diet and provide a number of essential nutrients that are beneficial for health across the lifespan," said Dr Anne Mullen, Director of Nutrition at the Dairy Council.

"Milk is a very complex food and our nutrition knowledge of this traditional food is evolving continuously.

"There is a strong body of research that stresses the nutritional qualities of dairy, and shows that dairy can help to address a range of health concerns that affect different age groups and genders in the UK.

"Worryingly however there are a lot of misconceptions about milk and dairy, and therefore it is our aim to address these claims head on and provide the public with accurate, evidence-based information about health and nutrition."
