Edward Marshall, a Chartered Surveyor whose family has three generations’ experience of Derbyshire’s rural economy, has been elected Chairman of the CLA’s Derbyshire Branch.
Principal of W K Marshall Rural Property Consultants based in Derby, Mr Marshall said he looked forward to representing the interests of CLA members throughout the county both in the region and by taking their concerns to the Association’s national council in London.
Formed in 1907, the CLA is the leading membership organisation for those responsible for land, property and business. Its members own and manage around half the rural land in England and Wales.
Mr Marshall said: “The CLA has a long and proud history and is as relevant today as it has ever been as we represent rural businesses of all types and sizes, great and small. The experience, advice and support available to members is especially important in dealings with Peak District National Park Authority, and will become increasingly so.
“Our role as a voice for our members has never been more important with serious issues such as the threat of compulsory purchase from HS2, potential erosion of property rights from fracking, reform of the Common Agricultural Policy and lobbying for appropriate development in Derbyshire to the benefit of the wider economy.
“They are issues which will continue to have an impact over the next few years, but our core values remain the same; the protection of private property rights.”
