A barn containing hay and fertiliser has been wrecked by fire in Dorset.

The 100m-long barn in West Blagdon, near Cranborne, caught fire some time before 16:40 BST on Wednesday.

The blaze involved 400 tonnes of hay, 200 tonnes of straw as well as farm fertiliser and 11 crews and units from three counties were called to tackle it.

Around 10 crews from across Dorset and Wiltshire were called to West Blagdon, near Boveridge, Wimborne following the reports.

At 19:45 the fire service said it was scaling down its response but a pump had remained at the scene overnight.

Police were called to the scene to help with traffic management.

Ground monitors and breathing apparatus were used to bring the fire under control. Specialist officers also attended to advise at the incident.

Five crews and two water carriers stayed on the scene after 7.11pm and this was scaled back to two crews and a water carrier at 8.15pm after confirmation that the fire was out.
