Energy expert reveals how landowners can maximise returns

An energy expert from Savills will advise landowners at a leading industry conference on how they can maximise returns from rural renewable energy projects.

Nick Green, head of energy and director for Savills in Scotland, is to join a panel of community energy experts at the All-Energy conference at the SECC in Glasgow on May 7, where he will focus on the burgeoning opportunities growing within the energy market.

“There are many more projects entering the construction phase, indicating landowner take-up of renewable energy schemes is on the rise. But not all of these projects – or indeed, the landowners which host them – are necessarily maximising their potential returns,” says Green, who has more than 10 years’ experience in the energy sector and specialises in onshore wind and hydro.

“While it is heartening to see many more enterprises coming to fruition, it’s important that landowners achieve a good return on investment or it is a lost opportunity,” Green continues. “Renewable energy projects are incredibly beneficial to the environment and they also offer significant potential for landowners to make a comfortable income from them. However, it is important that they really understand all the financial implications before undertaking a renewable energy scheme so that they can maximise the returns. It has to be researched as thoroughly as any business risk, so having expert advice is essential.”

Nick Green will speak at the community energy event, which starts at 10.30am on the second day of the two-day All-Energy conference, alongside experts from Local Energy Scotland, the Department of Energy and Climate Change, Community Energy Scotland and the Scottish Investment Bank. With clients including private landowners, facilities managers, lenders, local authorities and charities, Green is well placed to identify the key stages of any renewable energy scheme that need to be completed to ensure success – from securing consent to construction and operation.

In Scotland, the Savills Aberdeen office has recently welcomed a new team member focusing specifically on wind energy. Scott Copland will complement the existing team which provides expertise to the many landowners across the country who are looking to alternative income-generating projects.

Joining Green at the All-Energy conference is Giles Hanglin, director of Savills Energy who who leads Savills Energy’s commercial rooftop solar PV installation consultancy. He will be speaking at the conference’s onsite and microgeneration session at 10.30am on Thursday, May 7 on the challenges and opportunities for unlocking the potential of large-scale commercial solar. Stuart Campbell, director at Savills Energy, will be speaking at the finance and funding session at 2pm on Wednesday, May 6, where he will examine energy efficiency performance.

All-Energy 2015 is taking place on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 May at Glasgow’s SECC. Savills Energy’s team of rural and renewable energy experts will be on hand on stand D21 throughout the exhibition to provide landowners, developers and generation companies with the latest insight into UK energy policy.
