EnviTec Biogas UK is pushing ahead with growth plans after recording a strong financial result.

The company is part of EnviTec Biogas AG, which turned a loss of 1.4 million Euros for the first half of 2013 into a profit of 3.8 million for the same period in 2014 on the back of sales revenue figures, which increased by almost 10 per cent.

Earnings before interest and taxes climbed to EUR 5.3 million from EUR -1.7 in the first half of 2014.

This strong financial performance has been aided by the attractive market conditions in the UK for anaerobic digestion plants.

It has helped support investment in new initiatives including farmscale biomethane ‘gas to grid’ plant, which offers a cost-effective renewable energy source.

The company is continuing on a growth curve for the future, with a comprehensive pipeline of forthcoming projects in hand.

Mike McLaughlin, managing director of EnviTec Biogas UK, which has its headquarters in Rugeley, Staffordshire, said: “Investment in renewable energy from AD represents a robust commercial decision.

“It is a very efficient system, and we have produced a very efficient plant.

“Depending on the application, our units can be fed with food processing waste, farm residues, sustainable crops and/or slurry, and the electricity, gas and heat produced can be sold under the long-term and index-linked Feed in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive.

“The stability and predictability of income makes longer-term business planning easier, and that in turn helps secure funding for other capital projects.

“In addition, the digestate left at the end of the process is an excellent organic fertiliser – significantly reducing input costs.

“Ultimately, on a still night, AD is still operating. That gives it a consistent performance which can be relied upon.”
