Farmers can rise to challenge at key pest control event

Farmers challenged to comply with new laws on rodenticides are being urged to attend a major trade exhibition on pest control.

The use of specialist poisons to control rats and mice becomes subject to tighter controls in a matter of months as part of the new stewardship regime.

And the PPC Live event next month is being seen as the ideal opportunity for farmers to find out how they’ll be affected by the changes and ensure they’re fully compliant.

The free-to-enter exhibition, organised by leading trade body the British Pest Control Association (BPCA), takes place at the East of England Showground in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire on Wednesday, March 16.

Simon Forrester, chief executive of the BPCA, said: “Most farmers will be well aware by now that laws governing the use of anticoagulant rodenticides are changing.

“Those who intend to keep pest control in-house will need to be qualified and those who outsource the work will need to make sure contractors are suitably qualified too.

“Labels on these specialist products will begin to change in March and those who buy them will soon be challenged to provide proof of competence.

“Farmers who have put off doing anything about this until now had better get their house in order quickly and PPC Live is the place to do that.

“We can tell them what they need to do, and how to do it, or we can put them in touch with a BPCA member in their area who will take control of everything for them.”

Alongside a ‘Question Time’ style session about the new stewardship laws, the event will feature more than 50 exhibitors along with a variety of seminars and technical sessions.
