Farmers invited to quiz prospective MPs

Meirionnydd NFU Cymru is urging members to attend a hustings meeting, for prospective MPs, from six of the main political parties for the constituency, ahead of the General Election on 7 May 2015.

Held at Royal Ship Hotel, Dolgellau on Friday, 27 February 2015, local farmers will have an opportunity to quiz the prospective MPs on their party’s rural and agricultural policies. Liz Saville Roberts Plaid Cymru, Neil Fairlamb Conservatives, Mary Griffiths Clarke Labour, Steve Churchman Liberal Democracy, Chris Gillibrand UKIP and Louise Hughes Independent will all be in attendance. The Green Party have as yet not announced their candidate.

Meirionnydd NFU Cymru County Chairman, Lewis Williams, said, “Whilst the majority of farming issues are now determined by devolved Government there are still some important aspects determined by Westminster. With a general election due and the possibility that we could be facing a very different political landscape, the prospective candidates now have the opportunity to set out their stall and justify why they are the best candidate for Meirionnydd.

“The meeting is completely open to anyone within the constituency, however I hope to see a good turnout of farmers so please encourage you friends and neighbours to come along as it gives our members the opportunity to test the awareness amongst the candidates of the main issues affecting our agricultural industry.”
