Final recommendations for the 2015 Cereals Challenge teams

With just one week to go before the final judging and announcement of the winners of the 2015 Cereals Challenge at the Cereals event, student teams are making the last decisions on inputs for their crops of rye.

“The rye is out in ear and has started flowering and the final T3 sprays as recommended by the teams will go on this week,” says crop plot manager, Andrew Mortimer, of Velcourt. “There are some definite visible height differences between the plots, so it will be very interesting to see which teams have got the PGR programmes correct, as this is one of the more challenging aspects of growing rye which is a taller crop than wheat or barley.”

The final judging of the plots will take place the day before the Cereals event next week when they will be judged by Keith Norman, technical director at Velcourt, Dick Neale, technical manager of Hutchinsons, and Alastair Priestley – managing director of Patrick Dean Ltd, this year’s’ Cereals host farm.

The winning team will be announced at the Cereals Event, at 12pm on the 10th June at the Velcourt stand.
