First containerised Indian Non-GM Soymeal available to UK feed sector

The first, fully sealed 20Mt containers of Cert ID Non GM certified Indian soymeal for the UK feed sector are now available through London based importers Gemcom Limited.

Offering both standard grade and hipro meal, Gemcom’s unique containerised solution offers the feed industry a convenient, fully traceable and cost effective alternative to sourcing non-GM product in bulk from Brazil - currently suffering well documented supply issues.

Gemcom’s supply of Indian material is produced, packed and sealed at source in 20Mt containers which remain sealed until they are discharged in the UK, to minimise the risk of cross contamination. The soymeal is then stored separately at strategically located (certified?) stores around the UK.

The availability of large quantities of containerised Indian Cert ID certified non-GM soymeal shipments is aimed at feed companies who still wish to use non-GM material to meet renewed retailer demand for non-GM animal feed. India already has a strong track record in supplying non GM soy to the UK food market and also supplies non GM to quality demanding markets such as Japan and Australia.

Since GM soy has never been or planned to be cultivated in India, users have reassurance from the start. The in-built non GM status of the Indian soymeal is further supported by robust independent certification against the industry-leading Cert ID Europe Non-GMO standard. Each delivery is fully forward traceable to a customer, with each batch of containers in turn tracked back to production, region or farm.

Gavin Millar, Managing Director of GemCom Limited said:

“The market has found new ways to respond to alleviate the tight supply situation in Brazil exacerbated by export corridor bottlenecks and continued demand for Non-GM soymeal in the feed sector. Gemcom has applied its distribution knowledge and years of logistics expertise to achieve a level of traceability resolution zeroed down to 20Mt quantities directly from Cert ID certified Non-GM sources in India, something that has never been achieved before and on a volume scale”.
