Fresh impetus for Landini tractor sales

A descendant of Dutch farmers who pioneered agricultural drainage techniques in the eastern counties has joined a machinery dealer to help farmers with their equipment investment decisions.

Peter Paine’s appointment to handle sales at Landini tractor dealer Newman Enterprises – based at Ballards Ash near Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire – follows practical experience both operating and repairing tractors.

"That will be useful in my new role working with farmers in north Wiltshire, west Oxfordshire and east Gloucestershire because it’s important to understand their expectations," he says. "Then I can recommend the best size and specification of tractor for the work they want to do with it."

Peter, who lives at Ashley near Tetbury, Glos, completed apprenticeships in Agriculture & Countryside Management and as a Land Rover service technician before handling service and repair work at a tractor dealership in Gloucestershire, where he also got his first taste of sales.

"I enjoyed it, so I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to work in sales at Newman Enterprises, visiting farms and finding out what they need in the way of tractors and equipment," he says.

Roger and Hilary Newman and their son Guy are all partners in the 38-year old family business, which supplies a range of farm implements and machinery from leading manufacturers as well as Landini tractors. For them, Peter’s appointment has brought a fresh injection of energy and enthusiasm to help develop Landini sales.

"The Landini range has never been better," says Roger. "There’s a good line up of models from compacts to big six-cylinder tractors to suit every rural business – from horse stables and smallholdings to dairy farms and arable units."

Peter adds: "I think it’s a fantastic range that stands comparison with anything from other manufacturers. I’ve demonstrated the new 162/171hp Landini 7-165 on arable farms this autumn and didn’t hear a word said against it.

"In fact, farmers were impressed by the field and road comfort provided by the front axle and cab suspension," he adds, "and also by the versatility of the transmission with its eight powershift speeds in each range."

To emphasise the breadth of the Landini line-up, Newman Enterprises will soon take delivery of a new Landini 5-H mid-range four-cylinder tractor, which will be run as a demonstrator.

"It will be interesting to see how our dairy farmer customers take to it," says Peter Paine.
