Gold rush for British produce continues at Hampton Court Palace

A display of British produce has won gold at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show – continuing the gold-winning success at Chelsea Flower Show in May.

Award-winning designer Penny Riley was given the news by judges at the prestigious show today and it marks the third successive gold at Hampton for the partnership between the NFU and Waitrose.

The entire stand – named Celebrating British - is made up of seasonal British produce – nothing is grown especially for the display – so visitors enamoured with any particular fruit, vegetable, flower or plant can visit their local store and buy it now.

NFU horticultural adviser Chris Hartfield said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the reception the display has had. A dedicated group of growers has worked exceptionally hard to get us ready for the show. It is really rewarding for everyone involved to be given this recognition and also to get such positive feedback from visitors to the show.

Sue Steptoe, Waitrose buying manager, horticulture, said: “We are delighted to have won another gold and also very proud to showcase our passion for British fruit, vegetables and flowers. It’s great news that our display has been so warmly received, both at Chelsea Flower Show, and now at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.”
