A large selection of entries for auctioneers Halls’ bi-monthly plant and machinery auction at Shrewsbury Auction Centre on June 6 included a good range of harvesting equipment which attracted many new customers from across the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Many prospective buyers were, however, held up for hours in tailbacks caused by a series of motor accidents around the town.
The harvesting section included numerous entries of rakes, haybobs, mowers and balers. Rakes sold extremely well, with a 2011 Claas liner 2700 realising £8,800, a Kuhn 7301 making £5,000 and a Reco Fella 8m selling for £4,300.
Mowers topped at £3,000 for a John Deere 1350, £2,500 for a Lely Splendimo 280LC and £1,350 for a front mounted Vicon 3m. Several quality mowers sold for around the £1,000 mark.
Cultivation equipment sold very well, with He-va cultivators selling to £1,750, an Amazone power harrow reaching £3,900, a Vogel and Noot 4F reversible plough making £1,150, a Master 10 tonne grain drier realising £2,200 and a 24m Berthound sprayer selling for £2,700.
In the trailer department, a 16ft flatbed sold for £1,500, a 14ft stock box at £2,900, a Cheval horse trailer traded at £1,450, while an unusual pig transporter went for £1,150. A good run of grain trailers topped at £6,000 for an immaculate 12 tonne AW from a local farm followed by an eight tonne West at £3,600 and a number around the £2,500 mark.
Bale trailers sold to £2,050 for a 28 foot model while lorry flat beds sold to £3,400 for a 34 foot with a ramp and £1,800 for an 18ft model without a ramp.
Highlights of the baler section saw a local John Deere 580 round baler reach £4,000 and a well-used New Holland sell for £2,050. A static McHale wrapper reached £2,750, rota-spreaders peaked at £2,300 for a Frazer model and several vacci tankers sold for around £1,000.
Tractors peaked at £6,350 for a Renault Ceres 95X, £5,600 for a John Deere 2040S and £4,900 for a Renault 113.14.
Livestock handling equipment sold to a good trade. Lamb creeps sold to £390, sheep turnover crates to £390, sheep races to £440 and large livestock hurdles to £70 each. Quality wheels and tyres sold to £1,500 and a good selection of new sawn timber generated strong demand.
More than 100 tractor attachments went under the hammer, including Albutt Auger buckets to £1,000, Albutt push off buck-rakes to £1,850 and grain buckets to £750. John Deere rear wheel weights were in demand at £500, with Dowdeswell road brushes going to Ireland for more than £400.
In the lawnmowers section, a Westwood ride-on sold for £600 and a Countax made £300. A limited plant section saw a forklift truck make £1,100 while a handful of vehicles sold to a high of £1,500 for a Land Rover with a tipping back.
