The practical role for integrated pest management (IPM) will be a hot topic on the Certis stand at this year’s Cereals event.

According to Certis’ arable crops product manager, Inez Cornell, the firm’s experience of IPM within the horticultural sector has never been more relevant, as Certis branch further into the arable cropping sector.

“The UK government are required to show that UK growers are using IPM as part of the Sustainable Use Directive,” says Mrs Cornell.

“This, combined with the increasing pressures placed on the industry from the loss of several active ingredients used for crop protection, and the predicted loss of another 40 in the coming years, is a very real threat to arable farmers.

“However, the horticultural sector has been exposed to limited pest, disease and weed control solutions for a long period of time and has overcome such challenges by adopting an integrated approach, which the arable sector can learn from.”

Certis’ BASIS qualified team will be showcasing the company’s expanding arable portfolio at Cereals on the 10 and 11 June, as well as providing practical advice on an integrated approach to crop protection.

“The integration of crop protection tools, and the role of strong agronomic knowledge to develop programmes that are timely and targeted within the context of pest, weed and disease pressures, while minimising environmental impact, is becoming increasingly important.

“We’re continually developing and introducing products that offer sustainable, long-term solutions for crop protection so we’re better placed to support farmers under increasing pressures,” says Mrs Cornell.

The Certis stand is located just off the main thoroughfare, en-route to the Sprays and Sprayer arena (on the corner of the Central Avenue, on fourth Avenue, stand number 433).
