The NFU is today set to ask Tesco how it has progressed on a number of commitments made to British agriculture at the NFU’s annual conference two years ago.
At the Tesco AGM , held at the QEII in Westminster, NFU President Meurig Raymond is due to ask whether Tesco’s aspirations to shorten supply chains, bring meat sourcing closer to home and develop equitable partnerships with its producers still stand.
Ahead of the meeting, Mr Raymond said he was hoping to take the opportunity to clarify with Tesco exactly how it planned to support British farmers and growers in the future, especially given recent challenges facing the industry and at the same time as the UK’s biggest supermarket was undergoing massive structural changes.
“Tesco has made a number of commitments to our farmers and growers in the past couple of years – including pledges at our annual conference in 2013 – and our members want to hear from Tesco how they have progressed on those commitments,” said Mr Raymond.
