On Thursday 30 June, VIPs from the agricultural, not for profit and education sectors came together to celebrate the achievements of the 2016 Marshal Papworth Short Course and Masters students.
The event saw the unveiling of the 2016 African village, built by the students, and provided an opportunity for guests to engage with the students and learn first-hand how the knowledge and skills learnt in the UK will be disseminated in rural communities once the students return home.
During the evening Lord Iveagh, Patron of Marshal Papworth, addressed the attendees and presented each student with a certificate for the course they have successfully completed.
The students broke into song as a thank you to Marshal Papworth and the opportunity the charity has provided.
Commenting on the evening, Lord Iveagh said: "Marshal Papworth delivers agricultural and horticultural scholarships to students from developing countries, helping them to build a more sustainable future for themselves and their communities with new skills and knowledge of effective farming and agricultural practices.
"By educating individuals and communities from some of the poorest communities in the world in sustainable farming practices, the charity is empowering them to become more self-sufficient and reduce food insecurity."
Marshal Papworth is wholly managed by the East of England Agricultural Society and has already helped improve the lives of over one hundred and forty students from developing countries.
