JCB handling machines get new range of attachments at Grassland UK

New attachments developed to match the enhanced performance of JCB’s latest Loadall telescopic handlers and Farm Master wheeled loaders will be seen for the first time at this year’s Grassland UK event at the Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet on May 7.

JCB Agriculture will have a major presence at the event, with three machines working on the clamp, Fastrac tractors – including the new 4000 Series making its grassland sector working debut – operating Krone silage-harvesting machinery in the field, and static displays emphasising the breadth of JCB’s handling machinery range.

The new JCB AGRI attachments have been developed using a more refined design process that optimises the use of stronger steel, making individual attachments lighter but tougher and more durable than before. Increased payloads add to the productivity gains achieved with a new boom hydraulics system for Loadall handlers, and the power and transmission improvements introduced on Farm Master loaders.

Construction of the new Multi Shovel, Power Grab and Grain Shovel makes optimised use of stronger steel to improve the balance between weight and strength. Individual highlights include a 50% increase in clamping force for the Multi Shovel’s grab, a bigger tine opening and more effective spill guard for the Power Grab, and improved geometry with reduced weight for the Grain Shovel buckets resulting in increased load ratings.

The improved capability of these attachments complements the big productivity gain achieved by a new boom hydraulics system for JCB Loadall 531-70, 536-60, 536-70, 541-70, 535-95, 550-80 and 560-80 Agri telescopic handlers.

It makes them up to 20% more productive than before by reducing cycle times, especially when re-handling. The boom can be lowered more quickly under full control by allowing oil to move through the lift cylinder circuit faster, even at low engine revs.

With the standard 140-litre/min piston pump fitted to Loadall handlers, lowering time is now as quick with the engine on tick-over as it was at high revs. Together with the faster cycle times, this results in significant fuel savings of more than 4%.

Examples of the latest-spec handlers will be on static display at Grassland UK while two JCB Farm Master loaders – a 418S and the range-topping 435S equipped with JCB AGRI folding grass forks – will be in action on the silage clamp, with a TeleMaster TM320S telescopic wheeled loader joining in the action.

The 10 tonne 418S is one of five new or improved wheeled loaders in the Farm Master range. It features a new chassis, more power and a lock-up torque converter for the transmission, which together bring significant improvements in handling and loading output, as well as performance on the road.

At 173hp, power output is up 5% on the 414S and 416S, which the newcomer has replaced, with torque output increased by more than 9% to 801Nm.

Direct-drive torque converter lock-up in all six gears contributes significantly to the machine’s clamp climbing ability, while top-speed gearing of 40kph or 48kph improves fuel efficiency during road journeys while enabling the 418S to keep up with the rest of the silage-making gang when moving from farm to farm.
