Jersey and Guernsey milk sales increase 6.6%
Jersey and Guernsey milk sales totalled 8.1 million litres in the 52 weeks ending 2 December 2007, an increase of 6.6% on the previous year, according to TNS data from the Milk Development Council (MDC).
Jersey and Guernsey milk sales had been on a falling trend since February 2005 with sales down to approximately 7.3 million litres (52 w/e 28 January 2007).
Huw Thomas, head of market information at the MDC, says: "Much of the increase in sales of Jersey and Guernsey milk can be attributed to indirect promotion highlighting the benefits of J&G milk. One such example of this is the 'Taste of Goodness' initiative (www.tasteofgoodness.co.uk)"
In a wider view, total GB volume sales of cows' milk stood at 4.79 billion litres for the 52 weeks ending 2 December 2007, an increase of 97.5 million litres (2%).
Within total milk sales, extended shelf life milk with brands such as Cravendale experienced strong growth with volume sales increasing by 21.9% to 240.4 million litres.
