Livestock Event: Dairy remains at the heart as three different breeds welcomed

Three national breed shows plus classes for four different breeds will headline the National Dairy Show staged at Livestock Event, at The NEC, Birmingham on 8 and 9 July and supported by new sponsor, Elanco.

The 300 available stall places will be occupied by entries for national annual shows for Ayrshire, Brown Swiss and British Friesian cattle societies, together with entries for Holstein, Jersey, Guernsey and Dairy Shorthorn classes.

New to the event this year is a commercial stalls area for pedigree breeders with dairy cattle for sale.

“Dairy continues to remain firmly at the heart of Livestock Event with almost 50% of last year’s visitors coming to see the livestock judging and they asked for more,” explains event director, Matt Knight.

“Consequently, this year we are pleased to welcome three different breeds staging their national shows at the event, as well as classes for more breeds. All are well aware that Livestock Event provides the best opportunity in the country for breeders to show their pedigree cows to commercial dairy farmers milking over 80% of the UK’s cows, along with international visitors; the 2014 event attracted representation from 23 countries.

“This event has become renowned for not only offering free stall places but also for being the best equipped in the UK – a temperature controlled environment and prestigious prizes coupled with first class facilities for both stock and stockmen.”

Elanco’s dairy marketing manager, Fiona MacGillivray says: “We are delighted to demonstrate our support for the dairy industry and sponsor the National Dairy Show. We are looking forward to backing some of the UK’s best genetics, being part of the ringside buzz and enjoying the camaraderie.”
