MT-Energie biogas plant at Plusterwine House fuelled by KWS energy crops

MT-Energie UK, exhibitor at the Cereals event on the 11th &12th June, is delighted to announce the completed construction of the anaerobic digestion (AD) plant for the Hunt Family Farm, in Gloucestershire. The 500kWe facility processes KWS’ high-yield energy crops, poultry manure and cattle slurry for the production of clean green electricity.

MT-Energie UK, one of the leading providers of AD plants and gas upgrading systems, with over 650 facilities built worldwide, has just completed biological and mechanical commissioning of the AD plant near Lydney on the Bristol channel. This facility adds to MT-Energie’s increasing portfolio of 10 AD plants already built in the UK and with other 10 in the pipeline for this year the rate of growth for the business is certainly impressive.

After the incorporation of Huntseeds into KWS, the leading European maize breeder, Jim Hunt and his son William have successfully diversified their farm business with a state of the art renewable energy facility. The AD plant uses slurry, farmyard manure and crops produced on the farm, which runs a 450-cow herd and grows circa 350 ha maize. The system processes 25t/day of substrates, including bought-in poultry manure and grass silage.

Talking about the project, Jim Hunt states "We have always tried to diversify our business, first thanks to the fruitful collaboration with KWS and now, with this AD project built by our technology partner, MT-Energie, we can really say that innovation in agriculture is possible".

The AD plant also serves as demonstration site for KWS’ energy crops, growing on the farm, in order to show the optimised gas yield of the plant varieties. KWS will be holding an open day on the site on the 25th September 2014.

MT-Energie will exhibit on Stand D-535-5 - at the Cereals event, opposite KWS - E-528-5. The MT-Energie team will be happy to give more details about their integrated technology offer: biogas systems, gas upgrading solutions and maintenance services.
