Make Valentines extra special with new Mutton Week

National Sheep Association (NSA) is delighted to support a new ‘Mutton Week’ initiative by Salter and King Craft Butchers in Aldeburgh, Suffolk.

Salter and King considers mutton to be a very under-rated, healthy meat that tastes so delicious that it deserves its own festival. The butchers is therefore making this Valentine’s Day extra special by launching a Mutton Week on Saturday 14th February from 2pm with a series of exciting events:-

-A make-the-most-of-mutton cooking demonstration by Gerard King

-An ‘Introduction to Carcass Cutting’ butchery demonstration

-A mutton dish taste-off! Two local hotels – the White Lion and the Brudenell – will ask you to be the judge of who has produced the best mutton dish

-Mutton recipes to take home with you

Activity will continue through the week of 14th-21st February with delicious Alde Valley mutton – grazed in the lush meadows of Great Glemham – available in the shop, including new and innovative cuts to try, as well as recipe suggestions. Special mutton dishes, also made with Alde Valley mutton, will be on the menus at the White Lion and Brudenell hotels throughout the week too.

There will be farm walks at White House Farm, Great Glemham, over the seven days and a farm supper at White House on Thursday 19th February, cooked by local chef Peter Harrison. Times and tickets are available from Salter and King Craft Butchers on the Aldeburgh High Street.

NSA is committed to the promotion of quality mutton through an extension of the work of the Mutton Renaissance Club, an initiative of HRH The Prince of Wales, with sponsorship from Eblex, HCC, and LMSNI. The renewed work will assist producers, processors and retailers in making quality mutton once again available to all, as it was as recently as 80 years ago.
