Materplan approval for Bath and West Showground

A big step towards the exciting regeneration of the Bath and West Showground was made last night at Mendip District Council. The Masterplan was put to the Planning Board at their meeting and it was unanimously approved with individual planning issues to be dealt with by delegated powers.

Chief Executive of the Bath and West Showground Dr Jane Guise said "we are absolutely delighted with the approval of our Masterplan. It is very exciting news and the beginning of a new era for the Showground. This has been hard won, and I want to pay tribute to all those who volunteer their time, effort and influence to help us to achieve what has appeared unachievable. The future is bright.

In the next few months we will see the transition of what has been a relatively traditional showground into a 21st century venue, which is not only home to the Royal Bath and West Show, but also a modern and inviting centre for companies to hold their events and for businesses to promote their wares in the heart of the rural community"."

The Chairman and Managing Director of the Showground development partner, London & Wharfedale Richard Froggatt commented

"We are, of course, absolutely delighted. The level of support received from the Local Authorities has been exceptional. We are now fully in delivery mode and progressing serious discussions on over 200,000 sq. ft. of requirements. We have already agreed Heads of Terms with one party, and confirmed interest from a major hotel operator."

This is just the beginning of the many plans we have for the future at the Bath and West Showground Chairman of the Royal Bath and West Society Mr Edwin White added "

Our charity has just been dealt a trump card. Our role in supporting the rural economy will be much strengthened by this news. The mechanism which will now enable us to refurbish our exhibition facilities is innovative and involves the Society in no risk. The next few months will see the embodiment of years of hard work, not only by ourselves but also by our many friends and colleagues who have put their weight behind our efforts.
