More growth in organic poultry sector
Further evidence of growth in the UK organic poultry sector at producer level comes from ARM Buildings Ltd. The Staffordshire-based specialist housing manufacturer reports a 20 per cent growth in demand for houses, mainly for the production of organic table birds.
The company is now producing an average of two buildings a week supplying both small- and large-scale producers having flocks ranging from 500 birds to 25,000 plus birds.
Demand is particularly strong in the south-west of England, where growth in free-range egg production — both organic and conventional systems — has also been noted.
"Producers have been looking for well-designed solidly-constructed buildings, which are truly mobile and, importantly, vermin-resistant," commented Roger Smith ARM's sales director.
