With the Wales Football team playing their first game in Euro 2016, NFU Cymru is encouraging Welsh supporters to celebrate this great occasion by firing up the barbeque and enjoying some PGI Welsh Lamb this weekend.
The combination of PGI Welsh Lamb in peak season, the imminent kick-off of UEFA Euro 2016 and some great weather, make the perfect conditions for a barbeque with friends and family.
NFU Cymru Livestock Chairman Wyn Evans said: "Take advantage of the weather, football and Welsh Lamb this weekend and show your support for Wales.
"Welsh Lamb has PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) status identifying its origin and unique qualities.
"As a nation we are extremely proud of our football team for reaching their first championship finals in over half a century this weekend and what better way to celebrate this occasion than by lighting up the barbeque and cooking some great tasting PGI Welsh Lamb.
"Some good weather these past few weeks has meant that our lambs have had access to good quality grass, making for plentiful supplies of quality new season PGI Welsh Lamb available with a great taste and a succulent, tender texture, great for the barbecue, stir frying or to roast.
"Please make sure that when going to your local supermarket or butcher that you look out for PGI Welsh Lamb; check the logos and labels to make sure that the product has come from Wales; and come home and prepare to celebrate the success of our team with a product synonymous with Wales.
"The next few weeks are critical for our footballers, but also for farmers, as the fortunes of this year’s lamb crop relies heavily on the major retailers switching over to sourcing in-season, PGI Welsh Lamb.
"We are asking for your support in making this happen by making sure that you choose PGI Welsh Lamb this weekend.
"We are immensely proud of our footballers for reaching Euro 2016, likewise I am immensely proud of the lamb our farmers produce.
