NFU Welshpool celebrate success after claiming Agricultural Business Award 2016

The NFU Welshpool team are on a high after securing the Agricultural Business of the Year Award at this years prestigious Powys Business Awards.

After battling against other agricultural businesses, NFU Welshpool was shortlisted back in the summer and on Friday was announced as the winner.

On Friday 30th September the team from Welshpool headed to the Infantry Battle School, Dering Lines in Brecon for the awards presentation.

The awards, organised by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and sponsored by Powys County Council, celebrate excellence in business across the county.

240 guests attended this year’s awards ceremony with TV weather personality Derek Brockway compere for the evening.

Cllr Avril York, Powys County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Planning, congratulated all 37 finalists in the award categories, saying they represented everything that was good about the county’s businesses.

The Agricultural Business Award, sponsored by Lanyon Bowdler, was looking for businesses that demonstrated commercial success, evidence of growth, sustainability and support for the rural economy and community.

The judges for the category said that NFU Welshpool was "driven by strong and effective leadership in Steve Kenyon.

"This branch of NFU in Welshpool has transformed its operations to see it climb to one of the top performing branches in the UK.

"His enthusiasm and energy is a motivator for staff and they have introduced a number of innovative schemes to support the farming community including its Farm Watch Scheme and Dog Line."

Steve Kenyon, NFU Welshpool, commented: "It is fantastic recognition for NFU Welshpool to be crowned as winner of the Agricultural Business of the Year in the Powys Business Awards - and we’re all extremely thrilled with the win.

"It was a pleasure to welcome the judges to our office in Welshpool – to meet my team, to see what we do on a daily basis to support our farming members and to show them how our branch has grown over the last 5 years."
