NFU appoints Rob Harrison as dairy board chairman

Gloucestershire farmer Rob Harrison has been elected as the new chairman of the NFU national dairy board.

Mr Harrison, who farms 430 acres near Moreton-in-Marsh with his wife Emma, succeeds Mansel Raymond. He is a previous chairman of the next generation dairy board.

Michael Oakes from Worcestershire was elected as the board’s new vice chairman replacing Mr Harrison.

“I’d like to thank my predecessor Mansel Raymond, whose work on the voluntary code has put the dairy industry in a much stronger position for the future, and all the outgoing board members,” said Mr Harrison.

“I’m now looking forward to the challenge ahead of me as the board’s new chairman. There are pressing issues facing the dairy industry, including the recent retail milk price cuts and price war. I will be seeking urgent meetings with processors in the coming weeks to look for ways of addressing these challenges as a supply chain.

“Our industry faces an exciting future of growth and my focus will be ensuring that our members get every possible opportunity in that growing market.”

Changes to the NFU dairy board 2014-2016 include new South East regional representative Nigel Stacey as well as the appointments of James Miller, Mark Oliver, David Brookes and Janette Prince.
