New hedgecutter exends Kuhn's range of heavy-duty landscape maintenance

Kuhn Farm Machinery has added a new hedge and grass cutter to its range of landscape maintenance equipment: with a 5.70 metre horizontal and 6.79 metre vertical reach, the Multi-Longer GII 5757 has been developed for intensive use by farmers, contractors and local authorities, and sits between Kuhn’s existing Poly-Longer and Pro-Longer ranges.

The Multi-Longer 5757 has a horizontal working range of 4.80 to 5.70 metres and a maximum vertical reach of 6.79 metres. It is capable of cutting hedge tops up to 5.50 metres in height and can cut 45-degree ditches to a distance of 3.63 metres.

The new machine uses a heavy-duty steel construction for maximum strength and weight-to-robustness ratio, and features Kuhn’s OPT-VIEW arm with hydraulic pivot mounts and semi-leading parallelogram design with a 116-degree slew. The Multi-Longer’s frame is fully encased to protect the machine’s working components, with all arm hoses further protected by an integrated casing and a swivelling hose support plate which reduces hose friction at the arm’s pivot points. All joints are mounted on greased-for-life bushes.

The Multi-Longer is controlled by an easy-to-use four-function joystick which can simultaneously activate the arm, outer boom, flail head orientation, pivot and floating head for maximum operating efficiency. The joystick works in conjunction with an intelligent control console with temperature, fan and float warnings, hour meter, optional automatic break-back and ram speed programming functions. The control console also features a grass or wood rotor control with anti-reverse safety, and incorporates diagnostic and repair modes.

The Multi-Longer is fitted as standard with a 1.20 metre working head with 24 T-flails and is powered by an open hydraulic circuit, which operates a double cog-type V-belt drive. A range of optional flail heads, cutter bars and saws is also available including; a 16 T-flail wood and bramble cutting rotor for material up to 10cm in diameter, a 2.20 metre cutter bar for large hedgerows, and a 2.05 metre four blade saw capable of cutting through material up to 18cm in diameter.

For easier flail head attachment, a semi-rapid coupling device can be used to guide the arm onto the head attachment, and the machine can also be used with Kuhn’s STABI-LINK quick-hitch frame for rapid attachment to the tractor.

The Multi-Longer is compatible with Kuhn’s Shift Rail System (SRS) which enables the cutting head to slide +/- 40cm along the arm to reach under fences or barbed wire. The SRS system has a 90-degree head rotation range making it easier to work along narrow paths and behind the tractor’s wheels.

The Multi-Longer is fitted as standard with an over-sized 12 kW air-cooled radiator for constant power output, with all hydraulic components protected against temperature peaks. The hedgecutter can be operated by tractors with a minimum power output of 90hp and a minimum weight of 5 tonnes.
