Noahs ark at autumn show

The East of England Showground in Peterborough will resemble Noah’s Ark when thousands of animals of all shapes and sizes walk in two by two at the East of England Autumn Show on Sunday 9th October 2005.

Even bigger this year, animal lovers to the Autumn Show can expect a real mix of the weird and wonderful, with displays of rare and endangered breeds, such as Pygmy Goats and Irish Moiled Cows. There will also be a chance for visitors to get up close and personal with special classes of Small Livestock including poultry and waterfowl, pigeons, mice and even fancy rats and for the first time this year the Show is proud to host the East of England Beef Cattle Championship.

Dogs and their owners have the ideal opportunity to shine. The Burgess Supa Dog Agility Stakes will put to test canine skill and agility, whilst Scruffts Heats, new for 2005, organised on behalf of the Kennel Club, feature classes for Handsome Crossbreed Dog, Prettiest Crossbreed Bitch, Child’s Best Friend and Golden Oldie. Coupled with shows and racing competitions for the sprinters of the dog world, the ever-popular Lurchers and Terriers, spills and thrills are guaranteed.

Incorporating the Wisbech Shire Horse Show, see the power and grace of over 100 Shire Horses dressed in their traditional glory, with a variety of demonstrations throughout the day. Show Pony Club Team Jumping competitions always prove fun, as do the Donkey Driving and Harness Goat and Alpaca Demonstrations.

And it’s not just about the animals. Why not take the opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping? Packed with a wide variety of more than 200 trade stands selling everything from clothing to furniture as well as the Autumn Craft Fair showcasing the many talents of craftsmen from across the country, there is sure to be something for everyone. A Food Hall will offer the very best in regional food and drink and there will be plenty of attractions to keep children amused including a traditional Victorian funfair and children’s entertainer.

Chief Executive Andrew Mercer said ‘The Autumn Show is truly a show of shows. With so much to see and do, the Show represents a great day out for the whole family to experience and the chance to see some fantastic breeds of animals scarcely seen’.
