Northern Ireland-Farmers must destroy 7,000 cattle contaminated with dioxins.

NORTHERN IRELAND.

7,000 CATTLE TO BE DESTOYED.

Farmers in Northern Ireland are in a state of panic, over the news that 7,000 cattle have to be destroyed and that meat is now being banned from supermarket shelves, as a result of the recent cattle and pig feed contamination.

This could cost the farmers involved up to five million pounds and put them out of business.

Northern Ireland pork has now been declared safe, however the news that so many cattle are affected has come as a shock to farmers, who purchased the animal feed in good faith.

Farmers have been feeding their cattle over the last few weeks, unsure if the meat will be able to enter the food chain.

The farmers have gone to the Northern Ireland Executive for assistance and are still awaiting a response.

BBC and UTV Television, highlighted the plight of the Ulster farmers on Monday night.
