East Midlands-based Spectrum Energy Systems will showcase its first British-built 250kW wind turbine at this week's All-Energy, the UK's largest renewable energy exhibition and conference.
An established supplier and installer of new and remanufactured wind turbines in the range of 10-850kW from world-class manufacturers, Spectrum Energy Systems is making a move into manufacturing following an exclusive agreement with Pioneer Wincon, one of the leading wind turbine manufacturers in India.
Under the agreement, Spectrum will manufacture Pioneer Wincon's WTG P250/29.6 wind turbine that is a well-engineered, highly durable and reliable turbine with in excess of 20 years' service around the world. Originally designed in Denmark, the P250 has an impressive performance record with over 900 machines produced to date.
Spectrum Energy Systems director Paul Scholey says: "Confidence in the renewable energy sector seems to be riding high, and we're certain that we can further grow our successful engineering business around the manufacturing process. Spectrum Energy Systems plans to start manufacturing the P250 in the summer, once suitable premises have been found in Nottingham.
The company's plans reflect the confidence levels in the UK's renewable energy sector. Employment in renewable energy increased by 9% across all sectors during 2013/2014, compared with 2012/2013, bringing the total number working in the industry to 112,026, according to the Renewable Energy Association. In comparison, REA said, the Office for National Statistics reported average growth of 1.2% during the same period.
